Fort Bulnes, Port Famine and Rio Los Ciervos

Your tour heads south boarding the Magellan Strait. Along the way, you’ll see the Rio de los Ciervos, Lenadura, Punta Santa Maria, Guairabo, Agua Fresca and Rinconada Bulnes (a typical fishing village) before arriving at Fort Bulnes.

A historic reconstruction of the first Chilean port, Fort Bulnes was settled in 1843. Once known as King Phillip II, it was renamed Port Famine (Puerto de Hambre) after settlers died from starvation and cold. While at Port Famine, you'll visit the small museum and installations.

Before returning to Punta Arenas, a brief stop will be made at Rio Los Ciervos. Here, you'll visit a country house built in the early 1900’s; a small historical museum where you’ll see exhibits depicting the history of the first settlers arriving in the area. There will also be time to visit rooms displaying various objects created by the pioneers for the cattle, forest and oil industry.

Afterwards, a short visit will be paid to a small store where you’ll find many regional and local handicrafts. Finally you’ll have the opportunity to try a home made “pisco sour” cocktail while enjoying a short presentation of the local dance "Cueca" followed by the return drive to Punta Arenas.
