Volcanoes National Park and Rainbow Falls

Prepare for a thrilling day exploring volatile volcanoes, volcanic craters and lava tubes on Hawaii's enchanting "Big Island." The highlight of this daylong adventure is a trek to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to come face to face with Kilauea and Mauna Loa, two of the most famous active volcanoes on the planet. The adventure kicks off at Hilo's popular black sand beach, then heads to Rainbow Falls State Park for a glimpse of an 80-feet waterfall breaking over a natural lava cave. This tour departs from Hilo.

Tour Overview (*denotes stops made)
- Rainbow Falls State Park* This breathtaking waterfall cascades from 80 feet over a natural lava cave, the mythological home to Hina and ancient Hawaiian goddess. The waterfall gets it name from the spectacular rainbows frequently seen here.
- Hawaii Volcanoes National Park* Home to Kilauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes and Mauna Loa, the world's most massive subaerial volcano. Witness dramatic volcanic landscapes, rare flora and fauna and visit lava tubes, volcanic craters, and much more!
- Steam Vents Witness the steam coming out of the cracks in the ground in a grass field.
- Thurston Lava Tube* Experience walking through a 500-year-old lava tube where molten lava once flowed. You will exit into a beautiful lush tropical rainforest, an excellent place to stop and listen to the birds of the island.
- Richardson's Black Sand Beach* This is the only beach in Hilo and one of the few on the island with black sand. Here, you will see ancient Hawaiian fish ponds and enjoy a spectacular view to Mauna Kea.
- Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory* Learn more about Hawaii's favorite nut from the world's largest processor of macadamia nuts. Mauna Loa Mac nut factory is closed on weekends and holidays.
- Kilauea Visitor's Center Here you can view all the fascinating exhibits, constructed based on consultations with Hawaiians and the island's leading biologists, ornithologists, entomologists, botanists, and volcanologists.
- Jaggar Museum* In this museum on volcanology you can see displays of types of lava, equipment used from past to present to study the volcanic action and even learn about Pelehonuamea, the Hawaiian deity of volcanoes.
- Kilauea Iki Crater One of the most spectacular views in the entire park is from this 400 foot high crater.
