Explore the history and tranquil beauty of the Sicilian coast's well-known resort community. Perched on a mountainside, Taormina is renowned for its beautiful setting. You'll pass along the highway that cuts through the mountainous west coast of Sicily.
You'll stop below the village of Taormina before proceeding uphill to the village gates. Upon reaching Taormina, you'll walk past the ancient village's many squares and see the small boutiques located along the Corso Umberto.
Taormina is situated high on Mount Tauro, between the rocky mountains and the calm Ionian Sea. Taormina offers one of the most beautiful panoramas in the world. The origins of the town are very old, dating back to 398 AD. Near the center of Taormina, your walking tour will begin as your guide leads you along cobblestone streets to Palazzo Moravia, a 15th-century building adorned with classic double windows.
You will then proceed to the impressive Greek Theater, built in the 3rd century BC. Renowned for its width and for its unique acoustic qualities, it is still used for open-air concerts. Weather permitting, you will have an impressive view of Mt. Etna.
After the guided portion of the tour is completed, you will have time to enjoy the busy main street with its numerous shops and cafes and to savor the charm and atmosphere of this small medieval town with its palaces, squares, staircases, and small side alleys.
