This half day tour is of an area that was settled in prehistoric times, as shown by archaeological excavations in the locality of Santa Barbara. It is believed that it is the site of the ancient Greek city of Neapolis of Apulia, as attested by many coins. Remains of the Roman domination include the bridge on the Via Traiana. In visiting the cathedral you will see works by the sculptor Stefano of Putignan, located in the frazione of San Vito is a massive Benedictine abbey.
You will have time for shopping, photo taking of the coastline (the Amalfi coast of Pugulia) and a relaxing walk through the town center.
After a short ride from the sea side to the countryside you will arrive in the The Romanesque area of Pugula called Bitonto where you will visit the Cattedrale di S. Valentino, built between the 11th-12th centuries. As well, The Basilica of SS Cosma e Damiano and The church of San Francesco (12th century). It was built in 1283 over a pre-existing Roman fortification, to celebrate the 1222 visit of St. Francis of Assisi.
