Private Sevastopol and Balaclava for 4 people

Your tour begins with a drive by the winding road to Balaclava harbor. The British army approached Balaclava harbor, and captured it without bloodshed on the 26th of September 1854. The British took Balaclava as their supply base and left it in 1856. The unique S-shaped harbor was an ideal shelter for ships. Nevertheless, it was under Balaclava that the
British lost much of their fleet in storm. Another engineering structure built by the British in Balaclava is the embankment, which is still used today. The first in the Crimean War (and in history) professional military hospital was arranged in Balaclava and was headed by Florence
Nightingale.

Don't miss visit to Submarine Secret Base or "Object 825 GTS" -underground plant for submarines' repairing and equipping started in 1957 and finished in 1961. Hollowed out in a rock and covered by 56m of reinforced concrete, submarine Base represented combined underground water channel with a dry dock, repairing workshops, torpedoes and other weapon stores. To enter the open sea there was an exit in the North side of the mountain. In a case of direct nuclear attack the object could resist a direct hit till 100 kilotons power – thick waterproof doors could be closed and the plant was able to exist autonomously for 3 years, consisting 3000 people - the whole population of Balaclava. The total length of the tunnel is 500m, the length of gallery where the main workshops were located - 300m, the length of channel - 360m, the width 12 m and depth - not less 7 m. In the gallery 7 standard submarines could be located.

Then you will proceed to Chersoneses National preserve. The country's oldest and best preserved archaeological site - the ancient Greek city of Chersoneses. The city founded by ancient Greeks in 422 BC. and played an important role in both Crimean and Russian history. The city is called the cradle of Russian Orthodox Christianity due to the fact that it was here that the Great Prince Vladimir adopted Christianity to introduce it to his country. You will see the magnificent ruins, including a Greek theatre, Roman temples, and fortifications, elaborate columns of marble and beautiful mosaics. You will then return to port
