Punta Arenas City Tour & Fort Bulnes

Punta Arenas City Tour & Fort Bulnes

You'll begin this tour with a reception at the world's southernmost port founded in 1847.

Thanks to regular maritime traffic between Europe and the Pacific, Punta Arenas was the obligatory port of call and supply point for all merchant ships after crossing the Strait of Magellan.

Mainly Croatian, English, Scottish, German and Spanish immigrants contributed to the unique character and design of Punta Arenas.

Next you'll go to the Plaza de Armas (Main Square), where you will see the large monument of a Patagonian native and visit the elaborate palaces of the Patagonian sheep barons.

From here, you will travel to enjoy a panoramic view of the city, the port, the icy blue Strait of Magellan, and Tierra del Fuego Island from atop Cerro La Cruz lookout.

You will visit the Maggiorino Boratello Museum with its impressive native artifacts display and then stop at the Patagonia Institute, an open-air museum showcasing the machinery and implements of early settlers.

You will travel about 11/2 hours as you continue on to Fort Bulnes, a faithful reconstruction of the first settlement built in the region in 1843. This reconstruction includes the fort's original rooms, surrounding walls and large entrance door made exclusively from hand hewn wooden logs.
