Enjoy a tour of the island as we head east to the small town of Coxen Hole, the capital of Roatan. Here we find the city hall of Roatan the main financial banks that are located on the island and most of the main commercial centers.
After leaving Coxen Hole we find Roatans International Airport, one of only four international airports located in Honduras.
On the road we find two shipwreck sites. The first one is the Tolum which was towed in to Roatan in 1979 when it was found abandoned on the north side of the island. The second one is the Alexander which caught on fire at sea and was abandoned near the area she is located in today. Great photo opportunities!
Continuing on to the next little town, you will find some of the biggest homes on the island, which are owned by our local islanders.
Then it is on to the largest Spanish speaking town on the island. Here resides some of the first Spanish settlers that came to the island.
The next town is French Harbour where the fishing industry dominates where two out of three of the packing plants located within the islands are in French Harbour.
Just a few minutes from the entrance of French Harbour we find one of the newest developments, Pineapple Villas. And the largest bilingual school which is the Seventh Day Adventist Bilingual School.
The community located after French Harbour is French Cay receiving its name from the French vessel that sunk in front of this small community. In this community we find Archs Iguana Farm, belonging to Sherman Arch a local that started feeding the iguanas around his home; this has become the one and only natural iguana farm in the world.
We continue on to West Bay where we find the most beautiful beach on the island before heading back to the ship through the community of Flowers Bay, Gravels Bay, and Pensacola.
