Shopping: Bargaining Time!! Downtown shops offer the usual Mexican craft items at 20%, 50% and 75% off. The question is "Off of what"! Great fun. There are several reputable jewelry shops that provide the "hard core" shoppers with excellent opportunities.

Port Facilities: Ship docks are located in various areas with two being app. 5 minutes from the downtown.  Some ships may dock at the newly built pier  directly across from the main street.

Transportation: Small car taxis. Unmetered, but with standard rates.

Beaches: There are numerous beaches, all with great snorkeling and crystal clear water. San Francisco Beach is easily reached by taxi and is very popular. Chankanaab Park is a great government run facility with excellent snorkeling. Playa Sol is a private beach featured on most of the excursions.

Points of Interest: Although San Gervasio ruins provides a glimpse of Mayan civilization, those wishing a comprehensive tour of Mayan ruins would do better to experience the tour to Tulum offered onboard the ship.  The tropical jeep safari tour is very popular although it often sells out.  Be sure to book this one in advance. 

Jeep Safari

Duration: 4 hours Transport: Jeep or similar vehicle

An excellent way for groups to experience the island in an organized but independent style. Travel inland to see Mayan ruins, enjoy a prepared BBQ lunch right on the beach, stop at a beach and travel through the heart of the island.

Snorkeling Adventure

Duration: 3 hours

If you are an avid snorkeler or have always wanted to, this is the place. All equipment and instruction if needed is provided.
