Port Facilities: Ships generally dock in Frederiksted, necessitating a taxi ride (app. 25 minutes) into town.

Transportation: Vans and open air jitneys. Unmetered, but with standard rates.

Beaches: Although the island has several featured beaches, there is a beach directly adjacent to the ship’s pier.

Points of Interest: Whim Greathouse, the Cruzan Rum Factory, the rain forest and Buck Island National Monument (undewater).

Anyone visiting this island should not miss the chance to travel across the island to the principal city of Christiansted. While the shopping is not as hectic as St. Thomas, the shops are situated among narrow passage ways scattered throughout the city. If you snorkel the trip to Buck Island is a must. This needs to be arranged in advance as there is a government limit as to how many boats can go on any given day.
