Port: Philipsburg

Language: Dutch is the official language of St. Maarten, French in St. Martin.

Currency: Dutch side is the Netherlands Antilles florin(guilder), the French side is French francs.

Shopping: Prices can be 25% to 50% below those in the US for French perfumes, liquor, cognac, crystal and other luxury items. Front Street is one long strip of boutiques, Old Street has lots of café’s and 22 other stores.

Port Facilities: Tenders ferry you the Town Pier in the middle of town, although some ships dock at the pier, a 5 minute taxi ride.

Transportation: Vans and minivans. Taxi rates are government regulated.

Beaches: The island’s 10 miles of beaches are all open to the public. Topless bathing is common on the French Side. Baie Longue is known to be one of the island’s best beaches offering excellent snorkeling.
