MENDENHALL GLACIER & CITY HIGHLIGHTS

Departing the dock area, our buses will wind their way through the city's streets as our local guide points out the highlights and folklore that has made Juneau famous. After a short 20 minute ride out of town you will experience nature at its best by visiting famed Mendenhall Glacier. Come "face to face" with this mammoth "river of ice" at the Visitor's Center or take a nature walk on the maintained trail. The excursion also includes a countryside journey near Auke Lake and Chapel before returning back the city, visiting specific sights and historic buildings. In season a stop may also be made to witness the spectacular sight of salmon as they head upstream to spawn and die completing the cycle of life. ABOVE AND BEYOND      Helicopter Glacier Adventure
$190 per person - excursions

Our transportation will meet us pierside for a short ride to the heliport where you will be briefed on your upcoming adventure. Special boots and outfitting is provided if necessary. Experience an unparalleled sensation as you lift off and fly up and over the Mendenhall Glacier, spectacular icefalls and through mountain passes only accessible by helicopter. View the glaciers and fields that make up the Juneau Icecap and as a highlight, you will actually land on Herbert Glacier where you will disembark and set foot on this "river of ice". Your pilot /guide will point out the various formations and answer your questions. Too soon, your adventure of a lifetime concludes as you fly back to the heliport and are driven back to downtown.  ***As a safety precaution there is a supplemental charge of $80 for persons over 250 lbs. to compensate for extra onboard weight allowance.   App 2 hours in duration-pier to pier

HELICOPTER & DOGSLED GLACIER ADVENTURE

No minimum fitness level required. Please dress with warm water-resistant coat, hat and gloves and protective footgear. If you don’t have it we do. Flight times and routes may vary slightly due to inclement weather or other safety concerns. ALASKAN WHALE WATCH

The adventure of a lifetime begins the minute you board our "mammal friendly" jet boat, with fully enclosed and heated cabin.  Cruise to the playgrounds of these marine mammals where your captain will slowly approach the animals to provide as close an encounter as possible.  Our captains are so confident that you will find a whale that they will offer a $40 cash refund if you do not!  The entire tour time is app. 3 hours and we have three departures daily.  (Times vary according to your ship's arrival in port). 

MENDENHALL RIVER RAFTING

Experience an exhilarating river rafting adventure near the face of the glacier. Float down the scenic Mendenhall river with experienced guides and top of the line equipment. This tour is great for beginners as well as experienced. Choose to paddle or sit back and take it all in. Either way you experience a true outdoor adventure. A light snack is also included as is all outfitting equipment.

GOLD CREEK SALMON BAKE

More than a meal, this is a true Alaskan cookout. This has been Alaska's original "all-you-can-eat" outdoor salmon bake for over 30 years! At Gold Creek Salmon Bake, Alaskan-caught salmon will be grilling over an open alderwood fire. Your meal also includes barbecued ribs, chicken, baked beans, rice pilaf, a variety of salads, corn bread and beverages. Live musical entertainment is provided as you dine beside Salmon Creek, nestled in the foliage of Southeast Alaska's rain forest, under translucent domes that will protect you from any sort of weather. After dining, roast marshmallows over a campfire or view the Salmon Creek waterfall, where, in season, salmon spawn and the remnants of a historic stamp mill and gold mine are located. GOLD PANNING ADVENTURE

Relive Juneau's gold rush history and pan for gold in the authentic setting of Last Chance Basin. A costumed prospector will accompany you on a narrated van ride through a historic residential area en route to Last Chance Basin. Trace the route taken by Joe Juneau and Richard Harris in their search for gold over 100 years ago. Near the famous Alaska-Juneau gold mine, one of the world's largest hard rock mining operations, you will get hands-on experience panning for gold in the creek. "Guaranteed gold" for everyone! Your prospector/guide recaptures the history of Juneau's gold discovery and hard rock mining as you view remnants of the mine.

THE GREAT FRONTIER EXCURSION

Relive the days of the Gold Rush in one of our most popular excursions. Exciting points of interest and captivating tales are captured in this intriguing tour of historical Skagway and its "gold rush" folklore. Our knowledgeable guides have been recognized for their interesting narrative and friendliness. Witness spectacular scenery encountered as you travel up the Klondike Highway to White Pass Summit. This tour runs parallel to the White Pass & Yukon Railroad route providing fascinating sights of the "Trail of '98", Pitchfork Falls and traversing the unique Moore Creek Bridge. Everyone enjoys the advantage of actually being able to stop at the numerous "photo ops" and breathtaking mountain passes. A visit to the Gold Rush Cemetery, final resting place of the legendary Soapy Smith and other infamous men is one of our bonus stops. Our 'Yukon Discovery' tour is an all-day adventure! This 6-hour excursion takes us from the ship’s pier,  through downtown Skagway, Gateway to the Klondike for thousands of gold rush stampeders, and follow the Klondike Highway, which parallels the original White Pass Trail of '98 into the legendary Yukon Territory.  Keep your eyes peeled for glimpses of wildlife, as we enter sub-arctic alpine tundra and the majestic landscape along the vast shores of Tutshi and Tagish Lakes.  We will include a visit to Frontierland Wildlife Museum and Heritage Park to enjoy a delicious, hearty lunch.  Stops at the Frontierland and Carcross gift shops offer a great opportunity to pick up unique Yukon souvenirs, and eat ice cream North of the 60th parallel. See Waterfalls and Glaciers, Carcross Desert Lake Bennett, Frontierland Wildlife Museum and Zoo.  Then, travel back to Skagway, and a convenient drop-off in the heart of the historic shopping district or back to the ship.  Both choices include our driver guide  The 4x4 adventure will visit other off road places not available on the coach tour.

 RIVER FLOAT TRIP

Watch for porpoise, seals or eagles as you enjoy the short scenic coastal drive to the Dyea valley, an old goldrush settlement now returned to nature.  Here you will board our professionally equipped rafts for the relaxing river float.  Learn about the area's fascinating history and beauty as you float down the gentle Taiya River. This tip is suitable for all ages and skill levels.   App 3 hours in duration

FLY IN – NUGGET CREEK GOLD MINE CAMP – RAFT OUT

View multiple glaciers from your plane as it wings it’s way along the northern escarpment of Glacier Bay National Park to the glacier laden Tsirku Valley (Glacier Valley), crossing over Broken Heart Ridge, Takhin Glacier and DeBlondeau Glacier, your plane sets down at the remote, historic gold mine site known as Nugget Creek. Experience the gold rush days with a short gold panning opportunity before being fitted with rubber boots, lifejackets, and other attire the weather may dictate.  Then board your rafts for a 1.5 hour float trip down the braided river. You can expect to experience sometimes swift water (no white water) and sometimes very shallow river channels as your raft floats silently by sheer rock walls, cascading waterfalls, and increasing vegetation; including an old growth forest at our take out side known as Devil’s Elbow. Ground transportation will transport you on a short gravel/dirt road and over three river bridges and pass by an active beaver pond before meeting the picturesque Haines Highway. During your road transfer you will be transported through the heart of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve where, during late fall and winter months, an annual gathering of up to 3,500 eagles occurs on a five mile stretch of the Chilkat River. Your driver will take you to our ferry transportation back to Skagway.  App 4 - 4 1/2 hours

This active tour adds a 1.8 mile hike to the Scenic Float Trip. You will retrace the steps of the Gold Rush stampeeders on the infamous Chilkoot Trail, hiking through a moss-covered northern temperate rainforest. At the end of the one-way hike we meet the rafts for a relaxing river trip on the tranquil Taiya River. The hike is moderately difficult over uneven terrain for the first mile, then on mostly flat ground for the remainder. Please wear sturdy walking shoes. This tour lasts approximately 4 hours.

S.E. Alaska's 17 million acre Tongass Nat'l Forest has been described as "over-abundantly beautiful" and this flight adventure offers you a unique perspective of this natural National Monument. The forest has been set aside as a fully protected wilderness area encompassing more than 2 million acres of dramatic granite cliffs, lush vegetation and is home to host of land and marine animals. Taking off from the Tongass Narrows alongside the ship, your flight begins as your pilot provides informative narrative, along with completely choreographed music throughout the flight. From the comfort of deluxe seaplanes, view the misty scenery of 1,000 foot waterfalls and remote mountain lakes. The highlight of the trip is when your plane lands on a serene and remote lake or fjord, as you recount the spirit of discovery and adventure.

Salmon Fishing

Enjoy fishing in the salmon capital of the world! We are pleased to provide the services of one of the largest fleets of charter boats in the area. Fully guided and all gear and licensing included. App. 4 hours.

Ketchikan Kayaking
$79 per person - excursions
We leave from our waterfront location and go island hopping by kayak looking for wildlife in the protected waterways around Pennock, Snow and Gravina Islands. We paddle beneath huge branches stretching out over the shore where the rainforest reaches down to the water’s edge. An active Bald Eagle’s nest offers the opportunity to see these great birds nesting. Salmon returning to spawn leap around the kayaks and occasionally we’ll watch as eagles swoop down to snatch one from the surface and return it to the nest to feed their young. Kingfishers and Great Blue Herons feed along the shore and Raven is ever present.  Although there are no guarantees on seeing whales we may see pods of Humpbacks and Orcas. Occasionally we will paddle with Alaska’s endangered Stellar Sea Lions. This trip also offers the opportunity to see Ketchikan’s historic waterfront and to paddle alongside the buildings built on pilings over the water. Creek Street’s old houses and the historic buildings of the frontier red light district lean out over us as we paddle upstream with the returning salmon.  No experience is necessary for this kayaking adventure. Minimum age to participate is six years old. We have triple kayaks that can cater to our younger paddlers. All equipment is provided including dry bags for your cameras, binoculars to share and hydrophones so we can listen to the marine life beneath the water.  We only use lightweight fiberglass kayaks, not plastic, for your comfort and enjoyment.  App 2 hours in duration
