Bring your family and experience one of the few active volcanoes that you will experience up-close. From the cruise terminal travel about one and one half hours along the CA-9 NORTH Highway towards San Vicente Pacaya town.
You'll then be taken on a fifteen minute off-road trip through the coffee plantations to the Pacaya Tourist Centre.
Here is where your journey begins with a 1.2 km uphill trek. Three stops will be made along the way to take photos, regroup, and for you to catch your breath.
As you trek to the top, depending on light exposure and weather conditions, you may see lava rivers. From the trail and the plateau three other volcanoes and the Guatemalan City Valley can be seen if clouds are not present.
You will also see coffee and corn plantations as you hike along plus cedars, bamboo, pines and other tropical vegetation.
It takes about one hour and thirty minutes to reach the plateau.
Once you reach the plateau, you will have about thirty minutes to an hour to spend enjoying the outstanding volcanic activity, take photos and enjoy the spectacular view from the top.
Afterwards is all downhill as you head back to the Pacaya Tourist Centre where your transportation awaits you.
On the return trip, a stop will be made at the Sarita Restaurant for a forty five minute stop for a light lunch or snack, at your expense if you'd like, and a restroom break.
This restaurant is air conditioned and famous in Guatemala for its ice creams.
Following this stop, we begin our one hour return to the cruise terminal.
