Day 1
A full day of sightseeing includes visits to the Hermitage, the world's famous art treasury, and Peter & Paul Fortress, a place where the city got its start along with lunch and shopping.

The Hermitage - The Tsar's former Winter Palace and four other buildings that house one of the world's premier art collections.

Your three to three and half hour guided tour visits the display of rooms, which contain over three million art works, including paintings by Da Vinci, Rafael, Monet, Rembrandt, Renoir to name a few. Designed by Rastrelli, the Baroque Winter Palace boasts patterned parquet floors, ornate staircases, molded and decorated ceilings.

Peter and Paul Fortress - Originally built to protect the city from Swedish attack, the fortress soon became Russia's Tower of London, a place for political prisoners - including Peter the Great's own son.

The Peter and Paul Cathedral - The city's tallest structure in the days of Peter the Great and even today only the television tower exceeds it in the height. The ornate interior boasts gilded iconostasis, 18th century paintings and icons - and the tombs of many Tsars and Tsarinas, including Peter the Great and Catherine the Great.

Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood - This recently restored church sports an ornate and exaggerated "Russian-style" exterior and is built on the site where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated.

St. Isaac's Cathedral - The cathedral's massive central gold dome, one of the largest in the world, dominates the city skyline.

Cruiser Aurora - Now a museum on the west bank of the Neva, the armored cruiser Aurora fired her guns to signal the beginning of the Bolshevik Revolution.

Browse for souvenirs and gifts and bargain with local vendors at the various stops during your excursion.

A traditional Russian lunch is served at a respected restaurant in St. Petersburg.

Day 2
The Palaces of Catherine & Peterhof Park
A comprehensive full day tour gives you a unique chance to admire the most splendid palace and park ensembles of the 18th century, former summer residences of the Russian tsars that are considered to be exquisite monuments of Russian art with a worldwide reputation.

Catherine Palace - Designed by Rastrelli, the ornate Baroque Palace is over 1,000 feet long and features an ornate blue facade. Gold onion domes crown the palace's north end, the site of the chapel.

A gallery of Greek and Roman heroic busts decorates a covered walkway designed for Catherine the Great. Surrounding the palace are 1,400 acres of manicured gardens and parkland.

Your tour visits the White Vestibule, Grand Hall, the Amber Room, the Portrait Hall, the Crimson Pilaster Room and more.

Travel to another former summer Imperial residence. Set in magnificent gardens, Peterhof is reminiscent of Versailles. It was almost completely destroyed by the Nazis in World War II but has been restored to its full splendor. The gardens are dotted with countless fountains, charming pavilions and summer houses.

Particularly impressive is the fact that the landscapers and garden designers who worked on the estate managed to overcome the unfavorable weather conditions of the Northern climate to create a lovely land of flowers and greenery.

The fountains of Peterhof are one of the most famous tourist attractions. The diversity of fountains in the park is surprising. From monumental ensembles like the Samson Cascade to the ever popular Joke Fountains, including one which sprays anyone who steps on a particular paving stone.

Try out your bargaining skills with the local vendors near the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo and the Grand Palace in Peterhof.

Enjoy lunch at one of the respected restaurants in Peterhof or Pushkin.

Board your motor coach for a narrated drive through St. Petersburg. Drive south of St. Petersburg to Tsarskoye Selo, passing Stalin-era buildings, modern residential apartments and dachas. Heading west to Peterhof, you will see the industrial and residential areas of St. Petersburg, some former mansions of the Russian Nobility, Alexandria Park and the Peter and Paul Cathedral in Peterhof.

You will be required to provide your passport details at least ten days prior to your cruise departure date to assure you receive the required Tour Tickets which are necessary for you to participate in this tour and should be presented along with your passport to the Customs/Immigration Authorities in Russia.
